Mission Statement
The mission of No Retreat No Surrender Foundation (“NRNS”) is to make mental health services more accessible to the community. NRNS achieves this mission in two ways – first, by providing funding to mental health professionals to expand their offerings to the community and second, by providing financial assistance to individuals who struggle with the high cost of mental health care.
Founded in 2022 by Clarendon Hills residents, NRNS began its mission working with Laura Kaehler. Laura is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and therapist who helps clients to develop and employ strategies to better manage anxiety, depression, difficult life transitions, and family conflict. She has a Master of Social Work (MSW) in community mental health from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign and a Master of Arts in School Counseling from Concordia University.
Motivated by her own recovery journey which began in 1985, as well by the death of her brother by suicide a year into her sobriety, Laura completed her education and has over 26 years of experience in therapeutic counseling in schools, community mental health, and teaching at the college level.
Insurance co-pays can often be a financial burden on those seeking help. Since 2022, NRNS has provided financial assistance to help those who cannot afford insurance co-pays. By assuming the costs of these co-pays, NRNS enables patients to receive care they might otherwise be unable to afford. NRNS has also provided funding to individuals to ease the burden of insurance deductibles.
In the near future, NRNS will be funding speakers to provide education to the public on specific, relevant topics as well as to facilitate questions and answers for attendees. NRNS will also financially support specific populations through therapeutic groups. These group populations include:
• women in transition
• young women post-college
• rising college freshman awareness seminar
• college students home for the summer
• young men post-college
Two of these groups have been in motion for the last year, while the others are in the development stage.
